Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane ended the season with a big smile pasted on his face as the Spanish giants lifted their 11th UEFA Champions League title on Saturday 28 May at the San Siro Stadium.
The Frenchman took over in January after Rafa Benitez’s departure and managed to change things for the better at the club.
His run ended with a 5 – 3 win on post match penalties over arch rivals Atletico Madrid after a 1 – 1 draw in regular time and speaking afterwards, he equated it to winning the World Cup.
“At the end getting the Champions League is the best along with winning the World Cup,” said Zidane, a world champion in 1998.
“After all the work we did I am very proud, it has been a phenomenal job. I’m happy because I’ve been part of this great club for a long time now. I feel really very proud.”
Zidane has now joined the club of managers who won the title both as players and coaches.
