Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane suffered his first setback as Real Madrid boss on Sunday 24 January when his side was held to a 1 – 1 draw with a hard fighting Real Betis.
The game was Zidane’s third in charge after 5 – 0 and 5 – 1 wins and speaking afterwards, he said the result was down to his charges failing to make their chances count and admitted he expected a tough clash out against Real Betis.
Betis went to the game having failed to score in seven matches but after the disappointing result Zidane says he took positives from the game as they look to improve in future.
“Maybe our start was not so good,” Zidane said. “We knew first 10-15 minutes would be difficult. Then with the game we played, we deserved more. But this is football. When you have chances you must take them. And we lacked a bit of luck.”
“We expected Betis like this,” Zidane said. “This is a difficult place to play, great fans. And their goal was superb. I did not expect to drop points. But football is like this.
“If you don’t take your chances, this can happen. I am taking the positives from the game we played. I could not reproach my players in anything.”
The draw saw Real Madrid lose ground in their pursuit of the leading duo of Barcelona, who won on the weekend, and Atletico Madrid, who also played to a draw.
