Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has played down reports of a rift between him and star player Cristiano Ronaldo emanating from the team’s 2 – 2 draw with Las Palmas in the Saturday 24 September La Liga clash.
The striker was withdrawn before Real Madrid conceded late to drop two points in the match and he seemed angered as he trooped off the pitch and even on the bench but ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, Zidane has denied any rift between the two.
Zidane says he made the decision to withdraw Ronaldo for his own good and in consideration for the Tuesday game at the Signal Iduna Park.
“Everything is normal. It is not just Cristiano — all players can be angry when they leave the pitch.
“We’re already thinking about tomorrow’s game. I took the decision for the good of the player.
“We are relaxed. I’m not stupid, and he is intelligent. We are all here for the same thing,” he said.
Ronaldo will go into the match seeking his 95 UEFA Champions League goal to extend his record as the lead scorer in Europe’s premier club competition.
