Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has called on his players maintain a cool head ahead of their Champions League quarterfinal second leg clash at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight.
Los Blancos host Wolfsburg on Tuesday night with a 2-0 deficit, having been resoundingly beaten in the first leg in Germany last week and speaking ahead of the return leg, Zidane says they must be cool-headed during the game, while acknowledging it will be difficult to overturn the deficit.
“This is a big match, but you need a cool head to play in it,” he began. “We are not going to win it in [the first] ten or 15 minutes.
“It could be more difficult if they score, but that can happen. We must be focused from minute one. We have to score, but we have 90 minutes to do so. We need to be patient.”
Madrid must win by a three goal margin to progress to the semifinals, or at least win 2-0 to force the game into extra time and possibly penalties and while acknowledging that their fans would love to see them also play well, he emphasized on how complicated the game will be, while calling on the fans to support the team all through.
“People want to see their team play well and I’m sure we are going to do that tomorrow. The first-leg result makes it more complicated, but also more exciting. We love our fans because we know how important they are, especially in our stadium. We want them to support us from minute one until the end,” he added.
