According to Federico Pastorello, agent of Manchester City right full-back Pablo Zabaleta, Italian side AS Roma are keen on his services.
Zabaleta have been plagued by injuries this season and widely expected to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, with Serie A appearing the most likely destination for the 31-year-old.
The Argentine will be missed by Nigerian youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho who has always earned the support of the defender, notably during a penalty tussle in a premier league match with Raheem Sterling in which Zabaleta ordered the England man to vacate the spot for the 19-year-old.
Iheanacho stepped up and scored the resultant penalty and since then has grown in confidence and stature at the club.
Speaking with told website Corrieregiallorosso.com, Pastorello said: “It’s true, Roma are very interested in Zabaleta and it is an interest that has been going for quite a while,” Pastorello said.
“We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks, but his move to Italy is possible.”
Zabaleta has one year remaining on his Manchester City contract.
