Watford midfielder Ben Watson says Nigerian international Odion Ighalo is a striker that can always be relied upon, hailing the forward’s double as the Hornets coasted home to a 2-0 victory over a giant killers West Ham on Saturday.
After opening the scoring in the first-half, Ighalo added the all-important second minutes after the break to extend the Hornets’ lead, sealing three vital points.
The Hornets were searching for their second home win of the season, and they gave themselves the perfect platform to do that when Ighalo poked home Nathan Aké’s cross from close-range that proved an important breakthrough for the Golden Boys and Watson who beat Ighalo to the Man of the Match accolade heaped praises on the Nigerian.
“We had created chances, and if we didn’t score it would have been very disappointing. Maybe that’s been the case at home, as we probably haven’t scored as many goals as we would like. But you can always rely on Ighalo to get you a goal.
“In any game of football that first goal is huge, it gives you the advantage, and coming out in the second-half and scoring so quickly, that was probably even more important I’d say.
For Watford, it was back-to-back wins for the second time this season while the victory ended the Hammers’ unbeaten run on the road, and their seven-match streak without a defeat.
