Yaya Toure’s agent Dimitri Seluk has taken his war of words with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to a new level by claiming the Spaniard was not responsible for Barcelona’s success during his time with the Catalonians, but rather Lionel Messi was.
The Ukrainian has been involved in a public war of words with Guardiola, which has now threatened Toure’s future at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola had on Tuesday demanded an apology from Seluk, insisting that Toure would not be considered for selection until his agent renders an apology to Manchester City and him, a declaration which has escalated the row even further.
Seluk, who had earlier claimed Guardiola of ‘ winning a few games and thinking he’s king’, has now gone further to claim Barcelona’s success under Guardiola was down to Lionel Messi and Frank Rijkaard.
“The team he took at Barca had been built by Frank Rijkaard and then he was lucky to have Lionel Messi,” Seluk told the Daily Mirror.
“It was Messi who made Barca, not Pep. Luis Enrique has shown that Barca’s success was not down to Guardiola.
“It was the same in Munich. He couldn’t fail. My grandfather could have won the league with that team.
“If Pep wants to prove himself as a great manager, then he should go to Zaragoza or Sunderland. Let’s see how good he is when he doesn’t take over a great team and hasn’t got half-a-billion pounds to spend.”
