Liverpool have reportedly agreed a fee with Newcastle United for Holland international Georginio Wijnaldum, believed to be in the region of £25m.
The midfielder had also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur but the London club were reported to have pulled out at the last minute which allowed Liverpool to have a straight shot.
And according to the reports, the Red are holding talks with the Magpies over the structure of payment which is expected to be in tranches and could see a Liverpool player go to Newcastle on loan as part of the deal.
The former PSV player has been with Newcastle as they continue preparations for life in the Championship after being relegated last season and even though the deal is yet to be finalized, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping he will join them in their pre-season tour of the United States.
The 25-year old scored 11 times for Newcastle last season but they weren’t enough to keep the club safe in the Premier League.
Wijnaldum joined Newcastle last summer from PSV in a £14.5m deal and had an impressive spell but also suffered a dip in form towards the end of the season which spelt doom for the club.
His signing will make it five for Liverpool manager Klopp, as he aims to rebuild the squad and return them to the zenith of English and European football.
