Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho has offered some explanations on why Manchester City lost 4-2 to Southampton on Sunday at St. Mary’s.
Iheanacho did hit a brace for the Citizens but his efforts was inadequate for the Citizens who stay in fourth place and would have to be cautious of their city rivals, Manchester United who are hoping to gate crash the top-four party.
For Iheanacho, City performed below par at the back and that peharps explains why they shipped in four goals against the Saints who are generally not seen as a prolific scoring side.
“Many things went wrong in our team. We lost so many balls and didn’t defend well,” Kelechi told reporters.
“I think we’re going to come stronger in the next game. This game didn’t give us enough encouragement. But we will put it behind us and focus on the Real Madrid game.”
Going forward, Iheanacho has insisted that his team ‘must improve defensively’ if they are to stand a chance of overcoming Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals next week.
The brace scored by Iheanacho against the Saints has taken his goals tally to 13 this season.
