Super Eagles team officials have informed fcnaija.com that the Alex Iwobi is suffering from a slight knock and as a result, couldn’t make the training on Tuesday morning.
Iwobi who has been in a scintillating form for Arsenal in recent weeks missed training with the Super Eagles on Tuesday morning amid reports of dumping Nigeria for the Three Lions of England. The 19-year-old has represented England at under-16, 17 and 18 levels.
The promising Arsenal forward had arrived Nigeria’s camp on Sunday ahead of their crucial back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt and reports from England on Monday revealed that he was being persuaded by English Football Association to dump a future with the Eagles and play for England.
The youngster has been capped twice by Nigeria at senior level but is yet to play in a competitive fixture for the Super Eagles. This means there is still an opportunity for him to change his mind and represent England.
Iwobi has started three of the north London side’s last four games, posting a commendable performance in Sapin against Barcelona in a UEFA Champions League fixture before scoring his first goal for the club in the 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.
Iwobi joined Arsenal while still at primary school, and signed a new long-term contract in October 2015. On 27 October 2015, he made his competitive debut for the club, starting in a 3–0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Round of 16 of the League Cup.
He made his Premier League debut four days later in a 3–0 win against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, as an added-time substitute for Mesut Özil before starting in the first team for the 2015–16 FA Cup 3rd and 4th round home wins against Sunderland and Burnley respectively.
