This was a game of very little significance as Jurgen Klopp rested all his expected starters for the Europa League final, which is on Wednesday.
Early on the away side enjoyed a spell of possession, as they tried to get a foothold in the game. Brannagan tried to slide a pass in behind Dawson for Smith to chase, but McAuley came across to cover and snuff out the danger.
Bogdan had looked fairly confident in the opening stages, with the Hungarian goalkeeper gathering up a few loose balls neatly.
Ojo looked to jink infield from the left-hand side, but Leko tracked back and got his body in between his man and the ball. West Brom respond with an attack of their own, but Ibe snuffs out Evan’s attempt to break forward.
Liverpool fell behind early on in the 13th minute, with Bogdan having to look at his own contribution once again after letting Rondon’s shot rocket inside his near post. West Brom hadn’t threatened too often, but that bit of magic from Leko had been enough to unlock the Reds’ defence.
The visitors then caused problems from a corner, before Benteke fires way over.
Lucas tried to hook a long pass into Benteke, but Olsson beat the Belgium international in the air. Yet again, West Brom looked to find Leko breaking down the right-hand side, but the youngster lost his footing while giving chase to the ball.
After 23 minutes Jordon Ibe went on a marauding run down the right-hand side, after leaving Evans for dead. The Englishman cut infield and exploited some space left by Olsson, before picking out the bottom-left corner to equalise.
West Brom continued to sit deep, with the hosts not looking to concede or gift away any opportunities in the second half. Liverpool retained possession with confidence, though Bogdan doesn’t look the most comfortable of goalkeepers with the ball at his feet.
In the second half both teams went through the motions. Dawson did brilliantly to dart down the right-hand side on the overlap, before whipping in a very dangerous cross near the hour mark. The Venezuela international stretched to try and make contact with the ball, but could only stroke a flicked attempt beyond the far upright.
Benteke managed to take control of a poor pass from one of his opposing midfielders, before driving down the right channel late on. The Belgian managed to get away from Evans, but McAuley covered across to deny the ex-Genk man the chance to shoot from a tight angle.
The game ended 1-1 with both teams not too bothered with the result.
