Former Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC’s rise under new coach Leonard Odipo continued with a 1 – 0 win over Sony Sugar FC in the league clash staged at the Awendo Green Stadium on Wednesday 21st October.
Leading scorer Jesse Were scored the lone goal but should have bagged one earlier on the tenth minute but he fluffed his attempt after a cross from Clifford Alwanga.
The hosts, who went to the game with the better form of the two sides, were outmuscled for large parts of the game and on the 72nd minute Jesse Were made no mistake, connecting to Alwanga’s pass to fire powerfully home for what turned out to be the only goal of the game.
The goal was Jesse Were’s 20th of the season, opening a five – goal gap from second placed Michael Olunga who will be in action later in the day with his team Gor Mahia against Sofapaka.
The win saw Tusker rise to sixth place on the KPL log with 41 points while Sony Sugar stays 11th on 34 points with the Awendo side’s top half ambitions now in serious jeopardy.
