Tusker FC striker Jesse Were finished the 2015 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season as the best scorer having bagged a total of 22 goals in the top flight, beating his closest contenders Michael Olunga and Meddie Kagere, both of Gor Mahia.
Olunga finished the season with 19 goals and Kagere with 14 and Were, speaking after completing the season, said he has worked for the feat for three years and added that his target was 20 at the start of the season.
He shared the secret to the good exploits as good preparation in the preseason training.
“It is great to finally land the Golden Boot. For the three years I have been in the premier league I have always worked for it so definitely it feels good to have it finally. I wanted to score 20 goals for this season and to get 22 is really great.
“I am thankful for everything and everyone who made it happen. It started with good preparation in the preseason and I remember I did well in that period,” he said.
