Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has lauded the intelligence and humility of Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi following his five-star performance in the 2-0 win against Everton at the Goodison Park.
The 19-year-old scored on his first start in the premier league on the stroke of half-time to extend the Gunners lead after former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck had opened scoring.
Iwobi was composed in his midfield role and looked dangerous throughout the game and that left Wenger very impressed with the Nigerian.
“Alex is an intelligent boy who loves football,” said the Arsenal boss.
“He is very passionate about the game, keen to learn and very humble as well.
“He is 19 years old and has been at our club since the age of eight. I took him with us in pre-season and I liked what he did.
“After that he has improved very quickly. He did very well. I integrated him and played him.”
Iwobi is among the foreign based players invited by the Nigerian national team for the double-header against Egypt on March 25 and 29 respectively.
