Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck has claimed that the Gunners were not clinical enough against Barcelona following their elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
Arsene Wenger’s men went into the two on a two goals deficit from the first leg but fell behind when Brazilian Neymar finished up a swift Barca move. Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny gave the travelling fans something to cheer as he blasted in the equalizer.
However, strikes from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi killed the Gunners resolve as they bowed out of the competition but Welbeck believes that his side could have done better in the final third.
“We had some chances,” Welbeck told BT Sport at full time. “It was difficult to come here 2-0 down but we had a plan to get through. It was a difficult occasion for us and unfortunately we couldn’t get through.
“We had a couple of opportunities where we should have done better and with the quality they have then they are clinical when they have chances.
“Coming to the Camp Nou you really want to leave your mark, we could have done better in certain situations and it is disappointing.”
Arsenal returns to premier league action on Saturday with a trip to the Goodison Park to face in-form Everton.
