Odion Ighalo’s strike partner at Watford Troy Deeney has slammed Chelsea striker Diego Costa for overreacting during Wednesday’s goalless draw at Vicarage Road in a EPL week 24 encounter against Watford.
Thirty yards away from the ball as Chelsea took a throw-in, Costa clashed with the Hornets’ right-back Juan Carlos Paredes. The Ecuadorian appeared to throw himself to the floor, imitating that the striker had thrown an elbow, before Costa got his revenge by charging into him moments later, then tussling with Etienne Capoue.. Both players were shown a yellow card by Mike Dean although Costa appeared to complain to the referee in the tunnel about what happened.
But Deeney who claims Costa would be laughed off the pitch if he acted up in the amateur game believes the Spanish striker was over-reacting to normal contact during the game.
“It’s new age football, a little touch and everyone goes down. The ref spoke to him, and then spoke to him again and I just asked the ref was he going to book him.
“To be fair, it’s just handbags between everyone. To be fair, it’s just handbags between everyone.
“I remember playing Sunday league – that wouldn’t have happened. Everyone would have got laughed at. It’s just one of those things.” Deeney said as quoted on the Express.
Costa came close to winning the game for Chelsea when he headed Willian’s cross towards goal but Heurelho Gomes, who was excellent for Watford, made an outstanding save to ensure the Hornets took a point away from the game.
