Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has finally ended his temporary goals drought as he scored the first goal in Watford’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the English Premier League game at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
The 46th minute strike by Ighalo which is said to be the third fastest second half goal this season is also the Nigeria’s first for 2016.
Coming from four straight losses in the League, the Hornets were understandably desperate to halt the ugly trend. But hard as they tried in the first half, they could not break the Magpies.
However, 50 seconds of the restart Ighalo ran clear on to Deeney’s pass to skip round Elliot and score his 14th goal of the season.
And after 57 minutes, Ighalo turned the provider as he gave Craig Cathcart the assist for his first goal since last April which helped doubled the home side’s advantage.
But just when Newcastle appeared to be wilting, Jamaal Lascelles headed Jonjo Shelvey’s corner beyond Heurelho Gomes.
The visitors hoped for a share of the spoils but taht was not to be as Ighalo and teammates held on for the win.
