Kenyan international Victor Wanyama was rated the best player after featuring for the entire game as his Southampton team beat Manchester United 1- 0 at Old Trafford on Saturday 23 January.
Wanyama put in a great shift and was rated 8/10 by ESPN for his performance in the game with BBC Sport reporting an 82.5% success rate with his passes and the most interceptions in the game which the hosts were limited to just one shot on target.
New boy Charlie Austin was the hero on the day after he was introduced deep in the second half. He won a foul off Adnan Januzaj and from it scored the winner with an 87th minute header.
“Wanyama has turned in a couple of impressive displays since his sending off against Norwich.
“The Kenyan powerhouse was strong in the tackle throughout and used the right amount of aggression without threatening to add to his tally of two red cards this season.
“Got the better of his former Southampton teammate Morgan Schneiderlin,” ESPN reported.
Wanyama’s performance against the Red Devils will definitely fuel more speculation regarding his future with a number of clubs reported to be interested.
