Southampton FC midfielder Victor Wanyama has been listed as a potential transfer target for Barclays Premier League giants Arsenal in the January transfer.
Arsenal have been struggling with injuries to key players especially in the midfield with Francis Coquelin, Santi Carzola and Mikel Arteta all out and Mirror reports that the team is set to line up a bid of over £15m.
Wanyama was a target for Arsenal three seasons ago when he joined the Saints from Scottish giants Celtic on a £12.5m move but with the current injury woes, Wenger is apparently considering moving in for the midfielder in the winter transfer window.
Further fueling the reports is the claim by Mirror that the Saints have earmarked FC Porto midfielder Giannelli Imbula as his replacement at St. Mary’s.
Wanyama was the subject of a protracted transfer saga at the start of the season with London side Tottenham Hotspurs eyeing a move for the Kenyan international.
The deal fell through and Saints Manager Ronald Koeman managed to keep his man. Should Arsenal place a bid, it could be harder for Koeman with Arsenal harbouring title ambitions and also in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
Wanyama has twice skippered the team in the League Cup this season.
