Kenyan international victor Wanyama will miss five matches as a result of the red card he received over the weekend in his team’s game against West Ham United.
The red card, after a bad tackle on Dmitri Payet was the midfielder’s third of the season and the penalty that comes with it is missing action for six weeks.
Wanyama was earlier booked in the matches against AFC Bournemouth in November and against Norwich in January.
The suspension means he will miss the matches against Swansea, Chelsea, AFC Bournemouth, Sunderland and Stoke City. He will return to action on March 19 when his team takes on Liverpool.
He is also reported to be facing a fine of two weeks’ salary cut.
His manager Ronald Koeman has already stated his displeasure at Wanyama’s tackle that earned him a red card.
