The Kenya national team head coach Stanley Okumbi heaped praises on his skipper Victor Wanyama as well as new found favorite Ismail Gonzalez after a fine afternoon on Sunday 5 June when Kenya’s Harambee Stars beat Congo.
The two, operating in central midfield had a decent afternoon as Kenya ran out 2 – 1 winners and Okumbi speaking afterwards stated that the duo’s combination was pivotal for the team and termed their contribution the reason for the win.
He also lauded the rest of the players for a good output, and even though the win will not matter a lot for the nation, he says his players gave their all for a well deserved win.
“We played well and the midfield of Wanyama and Gonzalez was vital to our win. Kahata did well too in providing the balls to the forwards. I believe all of my players gave their all and I am pleased with everyone of them,” Okumbi said.
Okumbi also had kind words for the home fans who showed up for the match and rallied the team to continue in the same way in future.
Kenya, bottom of Group E of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers with four points, will be taking on Zambia in their last match of the qualifiers.
