Kenyan international Victor Wanyama returned to action after a five match ban to help his Southampton side rise from two goals down to beat Liverpool 3 – 2 in an English Premier League clash on Sunday 20 March.
Wanyama started the day on the bench but was introduced at the start of the second half, and played a crucial part in the comeback and speaking to Sky Sports, he lauded the spirit shown by the team, noting that he knew they’d get something form the match.
Though he seemed to easily work his way through the Liverpool midfield, he admitted the game was tough.
“I know the team never gives up and I went in there knowing we could do something and still believing we could get something from the game.
“It was a tough game. Liverpool are a really good team and the result was fantastic. I think the whole team played really well.
“We really needed to win – we showed great character and we have done well and managed to get three points,” he said.
