Junior Ajayi of Tunisia side CS Sfaxien and FSV Frankfurt’s Taiwo Awoniyi sang happily inside their hotel room as they celebrated Nigeria’s triumph at the CAF U-23 Championship in Senegal.
Nigeria defeated Algeria in the finals 2-1 to clinch an automatic ticket to the Rio 2016 Olympics – a competition they won back at Atlanta 1996 before reaching the 2008 final in Beijing which they narrowly lost to Argentina.
Ajayi and Awoniyi has been close friends since they met on national team assignment and started the U-23 CAF tourney as the preferred strike partners before the on loan Liverpool forward got injured but in his absence Ajayi led the lines well and got support from U-17 Most Valuable Player Victor Osihmen.
However, the friendship between both players showed even more as they sang a favourite fans song with their Yoruba dialect: ‘Nigeria yi ti gbogbo wa ni, koma gbodo baje, nitori kosi ibomiran ti a le lo, a jo oda bi ile, eje kaso wopo kajo gbega, gbe ke mi gbe.’
Sure after watching this video fans of both players will join in and sing with loud voices. Awoniyi and Ajayi did not return with the rest of the team from Senegal as they flew back to their respective clubs.
