Gary Neville’s Valencia side battled from down to pick a point against Real Madrid in a 2 – 2 draw in the La Liga clash played on Sunday 3 January.
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo did not have his usual impact but was heavily involved when his team took the lead on the quarter hour mark courtesy of a cool finish from Karim Benzema with Gareth Bale also involved.
The hosts were not so convincing in the early stages and deservedly went down but still managed to battle for a tie going to the break as Parejo leveled from the spot following Pepe’s foul on Andre Gomes in the box.
Real Madrid had a setback in Matteo Kovacic’s sending off on the 68th minute for a foul on Joao Cancelo but still Bale headed them ahead for the second time on the 82 minute and Real looked destined for a first win of the year.
However, a minute later, one of Gary Neville’s attacking substitutions, Alcacer Garcia, leveled again for Valencia and it could have been worse for Madrid when another sub, Alvaro Negredo was found in space at the edge of the box but he shot straight at Keylor Navas.
