Super Eagles striker Anthony Ujah has tendered an apology to Mainz 05 fans following his two goals that helped Werder Bremen to secure maximum points on the road against his former employers last weekend.
Ujah and his team-mates finally ended their five-game losing streak thanks to an explosive six-minute spell that helped the Viktor Skripnik led side to a 3-1 victory against Mainz 05 at the Coface Arena.
The Nigerian international who spent two years with The O-Fives in an interview after the game said;
“I felt very happy about my goals and although I didn’t have a lot of highlight here (Mainz), but the fans were very nice to me during my time here.
“I’m sorry for the two goals but my team needed me today. I wish the Mainz fans the very best for the next games.” Ujah who was voted man of the match on the night told the bundesliga-tv.
In June 2011, Ujah signed for 1. FSV Mainz 05, after being tracked by several clubs, most notably Danish outfits F.C. København and Brøndby IF.Ujah scored his first two goals for his new club in a 3–1 victory over VfB Stuttgart on 4 November, ending his side’s winless run that stretched back to mid-August and moved them three points clear of the relegation zone.
On the last day of the summer 2012 transfer window, Ujah signed a season-loan to 1. FC Köln.
