Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho has been named the Player of the Month for May to win the award organized by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) and Sportpesa.
The Ugandan was instrumental for Gor Mahia in the month, playing in each of the team’s four Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches, and scored a goal as well as grabbing three assists as the reigning league champions won all four matches and kept four clean sheets.
The midfielder was feted on Wednesday 15 June at the team’s training ground at the Camp Toyoyo Stadium and in his comments, termed the award a surprise despite knowing beforehand that he had been nominated.
“This award comes as a big surprise, I never imagined I can win it even though I knew I was nominated alongside Eric; it is a happy surprise and a motivation for me to work harder,” the midfielder said.
His award came with a personalized trophy, a Kshs 100,000 cheque and a 43 – inch television courtesy of LG. The club was also awarded Kshs 50,000 courtesy of Aucho’s win.
The award could be his last in the country as the Ugandan has been linked with a move to Glasgow Rangers of Scotland.
