Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has urged his lads to deliver “a great performance” against group F leaders Bayern Munich on Tuesday night and get the Gunners’ Champions League campaign back on track, insisting a draw will not be acceptable.
Arsenal lost their opening two Group F fixtures aginst Dynamo Zagreb in Croatia and Olympiakos in England. Wenger’s men now face a Bayern Munich side that has been in scintillating form this season, winning both of their opening fixtures without conceding.
Wenger believes Arsenal’s domestic form has given them the perfect base for a crack at the Bundesliga giants – and he won’t be content with a draw.
“The confidence level is there, the needed result is there as well – we know exactly what is required [because] a 0-0 is not even a good result. To score goals, we have to attack.
“It is true that [we have delivered big results] before, but we want to do it again because we feel a bit that the pain inflicted [in the Champions League] was a bit by ourselves. Maybe subconsciously we thought ‘anyway we will win these [first two games’.
“Now to correct that we need a great performance. What we want to do is play up to our level – that will be needed because we play against a big team.” Wenger told the Arsenal official website.
Goals have not been a problem for Arsenal in the Premier League with three against Manchester United and Watford either side of the international break and the Wenger will hope Arsenal carry that goals scoring form into Tuesday’s clash.
