“The team were great and the supporters too, it was brilliant. They backed us throughout, from start to finish. It was a perfect night. We played very well and the fans support was great, they gave us the encouragement to win what was a difficult game. We’re one step away from making it very far in the competition and we’re very excited and happy.
“It’s always difficult to come back from 2-0. Tonight was a perfect and magical night for me. I’m pleased with the three goals, but the most important thing is the team, and we played with intensity. Football is full of surprises. In Europe the teams are increasingly stronger and it’s always difficult to win the games. We did very well and we deserved to get through.” Ronaldo stated.
Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos highlighted the atmosphere in the Santiago Bernabéu after the comeback against Wolfsburg: “It was special, from the first minute until the last. We have to be grateful that grounds like this don’t exist. The love and confidence of the fans was fundamental from the start, showing that it could be achieved.
“The team has put their heart and soul in to it, like we promised the fans we would and we’re deservedly in to the semi-finals.
“There we people who though that the comeback wasn’t possible. We knew how to manage the game, as it’s not possible to maintain the pressure for 45 minutes; we did it for the first 30. In the second half the idea was to go out with a high intensity and look for the goal.” Ramos added.
Karim Benzema also spoke to the press after the win, echoing his team-mates’ standpoint.
“There was a lot of pressure on it, but the right kind of pressure, the sort of that drives you on to do good things for the team and the club. The important thing at Real Madrid is to win titles”.
