The UEFA Champions League quarter final draws will happen in few hours and the eight best teams in Europe awaits their pairings but the one potential fixture that is already generating a lot of talk is the one involving the Spanish teams.
It’s no longer news that Spain were the only team to produce three teams at this stage of the competition and the prospect of having the El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona is mouth-watering or even the Madrid derby involving Real and Atletico Madrid.
Diego Simeone’s men were involved in the most dramatic Champions League knockout game in the history of the competition when they battled Dutch side PSV in the round of 16. They became the first sides to play goalless draw in both legs of their knockout phase before enduring the longest penalty shootout at that stage.
The Argentine have built a team with great endurance and tact – they will be tough customers for anyone they are paired against.
Barcelona coasted past North Londoners Arsenal, winning 5-1 on aggregate and again it was the brilliance of the MSN – Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar that shoned through for the Catalan side.
Real Madrid is the third team from Spain to make this stage so we are definitely going to see a game between Spanish opposition in the quarter finals. The Los Blancos will wish for a different opposition apart from this two because they have already lost to both sides this season and are not looking in top gear at the moment.
Paris Saint German looks like a team with a greater ambition to win the UEFA Champions League this season with the way they qualified from the group stage and depatched English outgoing Champions Chelsea in the round of 16 with relative ease.
They will still rely on Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the goals but they have a fantastic squad that can hold their own against the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Wolfsburg, and the Spanish trio.
Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich are rated massive favourites to win this year’s competition alongside Barcelona and they proved in the round of 16 against Juventus that they can grind out result in the most difficult situations which is a hallmark of champions.
Manchester City are in the quarter finals for the first time ever and will not want the dream of winning the Champions League slip away now and are determined to give it their all but the luck of the draw may not smile on them as they may be paired against new manager Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich.
Banfica and Wolfsburg are not as strong as the other teams in the quarter finals and the others will fancy a pairing against them but upset are never far away from football. Benfica eliminated Russian side Zenit while Wolfsburg dispatched Gent who have Nigerian star Simon Moses on their books.
