Dream Team VI skipper Okechukwu Azubuike will join the rest of the U23 squad this weekend ahead of the trip to South Korea for an invitational tourney.
The Nigerian U23 team have been preparing for the football event of the Rio Olympics and will depart for South Korea on the 29th for the four-nation invitational tourney, which is geared towards preparing the team for the Games.
And fcnaija can confirm that the midfielder will team up with the rest of the squad on Sunday, May 22.
He wasn’t initially scheduled to be a part of the tournament as he was expected to feature for his club, Yeni Malatyaspor in the play-offs for promotion to the top-flight of the Turkish league but given their failure to make the play-offs, Azubuike will now join the team this weekend.
He came off the bench for his club over the weekend, but couldn’t stop them from losing 3-1 at home to Boluspor, in a game that saw Nigeria international Sunday Mba sent off for the home side.
Nigeria’s U23 team have been grouped alongside Sweden, Colombia and Japan in group B of the football event of the Olympic Games.
They won the gold medal in 1996 in Atlanta USA, and won silver in 2008 in Beijing, China.
