Former England international Ashley Cole is set for a stint in the MLS where he is understood to be joining LA Galaxy.
LA Galaxy are keen to bolster their squad for the new season and they are looking at adding a number of international faces to their team and Ashley Cole is seen as one of the veritable options.
While Cole’s move to LA Galaxy has not been officially announced sources have confirmed to Goal USA that the signing of the English defender will be announced this week.
Ashley Cole Fails in Italy
At 35, Cole failed to make impact in Italy where he was with Capital club, Roma; a development which led to his contract being mutually terminated on Tuesday.
The former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back will hope he can enjoy some happy moments in club football once again as he will now be reuniting with former England teammate Steven Gerrard, who joined the Galaxy last summer.
The Galaxy are expected to deploy Ashley Cole as the team’s starting left back, with Robbie Rogers slated for a move to right back.
Interestingly, Cole would be seen to be eating up his words when he completes the LA Galaxy switch having previously made disparging comments about the MLS.
“I had offers from the USA, but I’m not ready to relax on a beach yet,” Cole said when asked about links with MLS when he first arrived at Roma.
Aside Ashley Cole, there might be another arrival from the Serie A to Galaxy as reports suggests that AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong is also on the radar of the ambitious MLS side.
