The rivalry between Tottenham Hotspurs was blown when defender Sol Campbell moved from Spurs to Arsenal before Spurs did a coup in signing William Gallas from Arsenal but that is set to get to a whole new level with the ambitious Spurs, eying Gunners skipper Mikel Arteta for a coaching role.
The Spaniard is on his last season as an Arsenal player and though the Gunners too want him on board, it has not yet been declared clearly what role he will play at the club after the expiry of his current deal.
Arteta is also said to be on Pep Guardiola’s radar, when the coach takes over at Manchester City at the start of next season, as The Telegraph puts it.
Arteta and Pochettino played for the same Paris Saint Germain team 16 years ago when the current Tottenham manager was the skipper and have held an admiration for each other since, with Arteta describing the Argentine as his “footballing father.”
While Pochettino accepted the compliment, he declined to comment on the link to Tottenham, terming it a rumor.
“I love him and he loves me. You know our history from Paris St Germain, when he was 17 and I was the captain. We have a very good relationship, but I never speak about rumours.” He said.
Arteta’s playing contract at Arsenal expires at the end of this season and the 34-year-old is yet to decide whether or not he wants to keep playing or make the move into coaching.
