Fernando Torres has signed a new deal at Spanish side Atletico Madrid that would see him spend another season at the team under Argentine manager Diego Simeone.
Torres’ deal at the 2016 UEFA Champions League finalists expired at the end of June but he has agreed to stay for another season.
The 32 – year old Spain international started his career with Atletico and has previously turned out for Liverpool and Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League before moving to Serie A where he joined AC Milan from which he made the switch back to Atleti.
He scored 12 goals in 44 games last season for Atletico, who were beaten in the Champions League final by arch rival Real Madrid and finished third in La Liga.
His strike partner, France international Antoine Griezmann, also signed a new deal at the team in the past week.
