Kenyan internationals Ayub Masika Timbe and Johanna Omollo faced off in the Antwerp derby as Masika’s Lierse SK condemned Omollo’s Royal Antwerp to a 0 – 1 home loss on Saturday 2 April.
17 – year old Belgian forward Ayyoub Allach scored the lone goal on the 87th minute when he unleashed a shot from 25 yards that beat Congolese goalkeeper Nicaise Kudibamba in Antwerp post.
Masika had a chance on the 39th minute following a run down the flank but his shot was cleared.
Omolo, who was on the pitch for 70 minutes before coming off for Jens Naessens saw his attempt on the 45th minute stopped by Lierse defender David Habarugira for a fruitless corner.
On the 65th minute, Lierse had a double chance to open the scoring, Masika’s opportunity was blocked by Kudibamba in a one against one situation with his teammate Anas Tahiri unable to finish off the rebound.
With the hosts Antwerp enjoying a 52% to 48% ball possession, they could not hit the back of the net and it was instead Lierse who scored the winner with three minutes to go through Allach’s effort.
The win for Lierse lifted them to sixth while Antwerp remains top of the 17-team log on 57 points from 28 games.
