Eugene Mukangula has been awarded as the best player in the Kenyan Premier League for the month of July as voted by fans.
This comes after the Thika United forward put in a series of good shows to help the team rise from the drop zone.
He scored two crucial goals in the month, against champions Gor Mahia and Mathare United to help raise the team from the red zone and in the voting, he beat Western Stima’s Levis Opiyo, Kakamega Homeboyz’s Ali Bai, City Stars’ Ezekiel Odera and Chemelil Sugar FC’s Hillary Echesa.
By being voted the best in the month he got himself a Kshs 10,000 award and a personalized trophy, joining the previous winners in the year – James Saruni of Ulinzi Stars (February), AFC Leopards striker Kepha Aswani (March) and Gor Mahia duo of Eric Ouma (May) and Jacques Tuyisenge (April).
While at it, he became the first Thika United player to win the gong since its inception in 2015.
The award was won in 2015 by: Victor Ali Abondo (then at Gor Mahia), Jacob Keli (then with AFC Leopards), Bernard Mangoli (AFC Leopards), Paul Mungai Kiongera (KCB), Meddie Kagere (Gor Mahia) and Michael Olunga (then at Gor Mahia).
