Setting the stage for a bumper weekend of Nedbank Cup action ahead, the PSL has compiled a selection of quotes coming out of the various camps this week.
Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho: “It won’t be easy (against Pirates), however we want to progress to the next round of the Nedbank Cup. We just have to be ready and we will fight to achieve our goal.”
Pirates coach Eric Tinkler: “We’ve done well in recent derbies; dominated & outplayed them. We’ve shown that intensity this week and I believe we can beat them.”
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane: “We are playing against respective opposition [Highlands Park] who look like they are on their way to the PSL.”
Polokwane City coach Julio Leal: “We are using the Nedbank Cup to improve the team’s moral. We also use this time to experiment formations and all the systems to play in the league as well. There is definitely pressure to produce results but we will be moving, mixing and changing things up by giving those who haven’t been fielded a chance to represent the club with some game time.”
Bloemfontein Celtic manager Serame Letsoaka: “We will play every game that we have to play to win it. The Wits game, even though it is a cup it is not going to be any different, we have to get a result and if that result has to come from a cup competition so be it.”
Steenberg United coach Mike Lukhubene: “You know Nedbank, for years everyone is hungry to play in it, to play the big teams, the players showed great hunger to make the last 32. Its every coaches’ dream to be in the last 16, in the quarter-finals…that’s our dream, but our main objective is to win the league.
Gavin Hunt, Bidvest Wits coach: “We would like to stay in all competitions this season. In South Africa generally teams raise their performances in cup competitions.”
Chiefs coach Steve Komphela: “This match attracts a lot of attention so we have to temper arrogance and overconfidence and go in with the right mindset to achieve.”
