The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, has paid tribute to the late former Bafana Bafana coach, Ted Dumitru who passed away this week at the age of 76.
The PSL will observe a moment of silence ahead of today’s Nedbank Cup final between SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in respect of the late Dumitru.
Dr Khoza said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of the late Ted Dumitru; a gentleman who contributed immensely to the beautiful game, both as a scholar and a teacher. During his coaching career in South Africa, which spanned almost three decades, the 76 year old, coached amongst other clubs; Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
He left a legacy in the Premier Soccer League, and through his passion he demonstrated his achievements by winning trophies and also through the work he did in mentoring young coaches. On behalf of the League and the clubs, we would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to his family.”
A moment of silence will be observed ahead of Sunday’s Promotion Play-off fixture between University of Pretoria and Mbombela United.
