With the Absa Premiership returning this week with matches on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we keep you updated with the top goal-scorer’s list.
As things stand at present, it would appear that the race to win the Absa Premiership Golden Boot award, won last season by Free State Stars marksman Moeketsi Sekola, is a five-way affair, a handful of players currently separated by three goals at the top of the charts.
That said, and with between 10 and eight games still to go (depending on which club), there remains a chance for those bubbling just under to catch the current leaders before the end of the campaign in May.
12 Goals: Collins Mbesuma (Black Aces)
The Zambian marksman’s goals have come from 21 matches, and 21 starts, in the Absa Premiership. ‘Ntofontofo’, 32, is chasing his second top scorer award, having banged in 25 league goals for Kaizer Chiefs 11 seasons ago.
11 Goals: Prince Nxumalo (Ajax Cape Town)
The 25-year-old has really found his feet in the top flight with the Urban Warriors, having had a stop-start career to date. Eight of his goals have been scored in 2016 alone; Nxumalo has made 16 appearances in total.
9 Goals: Khama Billiat (Mamelodi Sundowns)
Billiat has been in inspired form for the Brazilians, forming a deadly partnership with Leonardo Castro and Keagan Dolly. The 25-year-old Zimbabwean is also gaining momentum, having scored six league goals since the turn of the year. His nine goals have come from 18 starts.
9 Goals: Jeremy Brockie (SuperSport United)
The 28-year-old New Zealand international is another marksman on fire in 2016. With an eye for the spectacular, Brockie is a constant threat for SuperSport, and recently hit a hat-trick against Cosmos, making it six league goals in 2016 and nine in total.
9 Goals: Thobani Mncwango (Polokwane City)
Mncwango’s goals have been key for a Polokwane City side sitting just a few places above the drop zone. Seven of his none goals have come this year, including the four the 28-year-old scored in one match against SuperSport United. p> 7 Goals: Daine Klate (Bidvest Wits). p> 6 Goals: James Keene (Bidvest Wits), Leonadro Castro (Mamelodi Sundowns), Andrea Fileccia (Free State Stars).
