Zane Moosa relieved with Bafana’s World Cup draw

South Africa have to face Senegal, Cape Verde and Burkina Faso in Group D, requiring to come out first to go to Russia 2018.

“It doesn’t look too bad, it could have been much worse,” former SA talent Zane Moosa told

“We missed Algeria, Egypt, Ghana and Ivory Coast.  The main obstacle will be Senegal.”

At the same time Moosa warned about the abilities of the other teams in the group, as well as the vulnerabilities of the opponents.

“Burkina Faso, since they reached the final of the 2013 African Cup of Nations here [in South Africa], they have been on a downward spiral,” Moosa continued.

“Cape Verde, you can’t take them for granted. They are an unfashionable team, unpredictable! They don’t really play exciting football, but they are really difficult to beat. I think that is why they are ranked so highly. They are an awkward opponent,” he added.

Senegal star Saido mane is linked with Liverpool, having performed well for Southampton last season. He is just one of many stand out players for the favourites in the group.

“Senegal will have all their big guns, the likes of Sadio Mane of Southampton, so they will be the main threat. I think we should be reasonably happy with the draw, it could have been much tougher. It doesn’t look that tough on paper, but Bafana Bafana need to step up.

“After the disappointment of not qualifying for the 2017 Afcon, we will obviously have to go all out like every country will do. Everyone wants to play in the World Cup.”
