Enyimba FC striker Mfon Udoh has expressed his delight over his side’s qualification to the next round of the ongoing CAF Champions League campaign.
The prolific swift footed forward on Sunday ensured the Peoples’ Elephant progressed to the first round of the continental competition with a brace on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
The former Akwa United man in an exclusive interview with fcnaija.com said he was full of joy for the team’s feat while also praising his side’s attitude and character despite trailing the visitors following a first leg 1-0 defeat in Kampala.
“I bless Almighty God for what He has done for us (Enyimba) today. We played like mere mortals but God gave us the victory. when God has not written you off then no man can. I return all the Glory to Him and Him alone.
“I thought we got them on the back foot from the word go which was in my opinion exactly what the fans wanted to see. Putting them on the back foot meant we were in control of the game but then again we had to be patient and not give anything away.
“Eventually the goals arrive and I must say I am very grateful to God for the grace to get on the score sheet. Football is about goals, as a striker it is my duty to always help the team by putting the ball behind the goalkeepers.
“It was my first game of the campaign and I hope to keep complimenting my team-mates’ efforts by scoring goals. Hopefully this is two of many goals to come this season by God’s grace.” Udoh told fcnaija.com
The 24-year old Nigerian international who possesses pace, good positioning, natural finishing as well as the ability to provide assists currently holds the record for highest number of goals scored in the Nigerian Premier Football League in a single season.
Udoh is also the first player to score over 35 league goals in two seasons in Nigeria. He scored 38 goals in the regular league and 3 in cup competitions, for a total of 41 goals in his first 2 professional league seasons.
