Manchester United and Liverpool have been fined £30,500 each by the Eurpean football governing body UEFA for ‘illicit chants’ during Europa League tie in March.
Liverpool won the tie 3-1 on aggregate thanks a 2-0 victory at Anfield and 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the return leg.
Liverpool went all the way to the UEFA Europa league final of the competition in Basel before losing 3-1 to Spanish side and holders Sevilla.
Goals in either half from Daniel Sturridge, a penalty, and Roberto Firmino put Liverpool in control of the all-Premier League round of 16 tie.
Although United halved the 2-0 round of 16 first-leg deficit through Anthony Martial’s spot kick, Liverpool deflated their hosts with Coutinho’s equalising goal on the stroke of half-time.
It was a wonderful solo effort as the Brazilian left Guillermo Varela in his wake on a diagonal dash from the left side of the box before beating David de Gea with a lovely dinked finish.
