There are five Absa Premiership matches this weekend, including the Tshwane derby between SuperSport United and AmaTuks, a match both sides will badly want to win.
The action kicks off on Saturday afternoon when Jomo Cosmos host Free State Stars at Olen Park. Cosmos are just a single point above the drop zone, having picked up just one point from their last three matches, while Stars are 10th, having also only claimed one point from the last available nine. The Free State side won the corresponding first round game 1-0.
The second game of the day is an early evening kick off between Polokwane City and Golden Arrows at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Abafana Bes’thende, with four defeats and one draw in 2016, will have their work cut out away from home against a Polokwane side that has won three matches this year. The KZN beat Rise and Shine 1-0 in the first round.
The late night fixture on Saturday sees Maritzburg United continuing their quest to try and climb out of the drop zone when they host Platinum Stars, although even a win for the Team of Choice would still see them occupying last position. The corresponding first round match ended 1-1.
Bloemfontein Celtic, in ninth spot on the Absa Premiership table, are unbeaten in their last three matches, although two of those were draws. They host sixth positioned Chippa United on Sunday afternoon, the CHilli Boys with three wins and two defeats to their credit so far this year.
The Pretoria derby will take place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, and should be a hotly contested affair between two sides trying to arrest their slides down the table; each club having manage only a single win after the Christmas break. Both teams also have new coaches in charge; Stuart Baxter at SuperSport, and Shaun Bartlett at AmaTuks. Tuks are second last on the table, while SuperSport are 12th. Matsatsantsa won the first round fixture 1-0, and have beaten their neighbours in eight of nine previous league encounters.
