Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich have reportedly rejected a world record offer from Manchester United for German forward Thomas Muller.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that officials at Old Trafford tried to get his club to part with one of their prized assets but the bid was rejected out of hand.
The current global transfer fee record stands at £86million – paid by Real Madrid for Gareth Bale in 2013 – emphasising just how valuable Muller is to the German champions.
‘We had a mad offer from Manchester United last year, which was not a topic for one second,’ Rummenigge told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
‘We could have secured a world-record transfer fee.’
Meanwhile, Rummenigge has also revealed that the Bayern who have since invested money in Renato Sanches from Benfica and Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund turned down the chance to sign Kevin de Bruyne from Wolfsburg prior to the Belgian’s decision to join Manchester City.
