Ifeanyi Ubah extends unbeaten run against Pillars

FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday extended its unbeaten run to ten in all competitions as they defeated Kano Pillars by 2-1.

Ismaila Gata handed the Anambra Warriors the lead in the 30th minutes but Pillars equalized through Gambo Mohammed.

However, a late penalty conversion by Cameroonian Tamen Medrano ensured that FC Ifeanyi Ubah recorded their 1st win over Pillars since returning to the NPFL.

The match itself was highly entertaining as both teams came all out in search of a victory.

It was Pillars that drew 1st blood as Rabiu Ali’s long range effort went wide but however signaled that the visitors were not there on tourism.

At the other end it was Ifeanyi Ubah’s turn to test their opponents and after a series of accurate passes it was Tamen Medrano who had a long range shot but unfortunately his shot hit the upright.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah went on to dominate play, create half chances but were unable to convert. However the deadlock was broken in the 30th minute when Ngoma Luamba’s in swinging free kick was beautifully connected by Ismaila Gata who lobbed on rushing David Obiozor to the delight of the home fans.

This goal increased the confidence of the Anambra Warriors and Isaac Loute almost double the home team’s lead but his low short was saved by Pillars keeper Obiozor.

However,  the was a moment of scare just before half time when Adamu Mohamed of Pillars was free on goal but his curler narrowly missed the target. At half time it was 1-0 for FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

The 2nd half started like the 1st with FC Ifeanyi Ubah creating chances, Isaac loute, Ismaila Gata and Okereke Maduabuchi all had chances early in the 2nd half but were unable to convert.

The home team were made to pay for this in the 55th minute when Adamu Mohamed provided a beautiful through pass to Gambo Mohamed who curled the ball round FCIU keeper Ezenwa to equalize.

This seems to have awakened the home side as FC Ifeanyi Ubah created attack after attack but the Pillars defensive lead by Jamiu alimi and David Obiozor were impermeable.

Then came the 76th minute, Seka Pascal who was a pain to the Pillars defensive all afternoon long, dribbled past three players in the box only to be brought down by Jamiu Alimi. This left the referee with no choice than to award a penalty for FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

This Kano Pillars players protested the referee’s decision,  temporarily stalling the game.

Tamen Medrano stepped up and took the penalty only to miss as the ball went over the bar but the Cameroonian was given a life line when the linesman judged Pillars goal keeper David Obiozor to be out of his line before the penalty was taken.

Tamen in the second time of asking made no mistake and buried the ball in the back of the net to make 2-1 for the Anambra Warriors.

The Anambra Warriors held on to win the match thus claiming their first ever win over Pillars since returning to the NPFL.
