Warri Wolves started their campaign at the Nigeria league pre-season Super 4 in Kaduna on a winning note as they piped Federation Cup champions Akwa United 1-0 on Wednesday.
Itoya kelvin netted the solitary goal of the game for the league runners up in the 44th minute after a poor clearance by Olufemi Kayode in goal for Akwa.
Goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye was the hero of the day as he denied Akwa United several goals with no less than eight great saves.
New signing King Osanga and Sikiru Alimi missed chances to score more goals for the Warri seasiders.
The other match of the day is champions Enyimba against Nasarawa United, who finished third last season.
This tournament will prepare the four clubs who will represent Nigeria in this year’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
