Former coach of the national U-23 Dream team Austin Eguavoen has predicted a tough tournament for the current team under the tutelage of Samson Siasia ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Dream Team VI had an abysmal outing in the recently concluded Suwon invitational tournament, losing 1-0 to South Korea, 6-2 to Denmark, but won their last game against Honduras 3-1.
However, Eguavoen refused to criticize the team as he pointed out the 3-1 win against Honduras as a reminder of how good they can be on their day.
“Olympic proper could be tougher than this,” Eguavoen said. “If you look at teams like Denmark, Brazil then the boys knows that they have a huge mountain to claim.
“That’s why tournaments like this (Suwon invitational) are very good and kudos to the team for coming back to score three goals against Honduras.”
At the Rio Olympics, Nigeria will play in Group B alongside Colombia, Japan and Sweden.
