Jose Mourinho will lead Manchester United for the first time since he was appointed manager of the club in a preseason friendly against Wigan on Saturday at the DW stadium.
The Portuguese meet the players as a group for the first time earlier this week as he put them through drills with the help of assistants Rui Faria, Silvino Louro, Ricardo Formosinho, Carlos Lalin and Emilio Alvarez plus analyst Giovanni Cerra.
Both teams have played 18 competitive matches with Manchester United beating Wigan 17 times with a massive 56-5 goal difference in the Red Devils favour.
Latics chairman David Sharpe is already looking forward to a big weekend for his club and said in a statement: “This will be Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge as manager of Manchester United and there will be a big focus on the DW Stadium.
“These two games will certainly give the supporters a great way to welcome our players back to the DW after the summer break and will be great occasions.”
Mourinho’s first game in the premier league with Manchester United will be against AFC Bournemouth on Sunday 14 August while on Friday 19 August, the Portuguese will play in front of home fans for the first time when his side welcomes Southampton to Old Trafford.
