Wayne Rooney has been offered a massive a £500,000-a-week deal to quit Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Manchester United skipper is now on the periphery at Old Trafford, having suffered a serious dip in form, and there are already concerns over his future at the club, with some reports suggesting he will be allowed to leave in the summer.
And that may come true even sooner than expected, as former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is ready to tempt the England captain with a move to China.
The Swede will make the proposal in the New Year for the England international to finish his playing days in the Far East, according to the report.
Owners of Eriksson’s Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG have been monitoring his situation at Old Trafford, and remain interested.
And they will tempt Rooney with a massive £80million deal to switch his allegiance to the Far East.
The Daily Mirror report claims the offer, which is a £500,000-a-week deal – plus commercial bonuses – was made to Rooney and his advisors 10 months ago.
But after lengthy discussions, Rooney decided he wanted to continue his career for United and England.
However, his position has now changed since Jose Mourinho took over at Old Trafford with the new United boss unable to guarantee his captain a regular starting place.
And with his England career now also at a crossroads, Rooney’s head could well be turned by the mind-boggling figures on offer.
