Port Vale wants Ikpeazu’s loan extended

Port Vale boss Rob Page admits he would like to extend Watford striker Uche Ikpeazu’s loan stay at Vale Park until the end of the season.

The powerful 20-year-old is the Valiants top scorer this season and has netted six times in 16 games in all competitions.

The former Reading striker’s loan with Vale is set to expire in January but, given his impressive form this term, former Watford player Page is keen to keep Ikpeazu in Staffordshire.

He told the Stoke Sentinel: “There have been so many changes at that club since I was there, I think the only one left I know is Alec Chamberlain, the goalkeeper coach.

“But I would like to think my connection with the football club over the years might help a bit.

“But I think it’s the way we have treated the lad and what we have done for him since he’s been here that is most important.

“We are helping their centre-forward progress and it is helping us in the short term as well, which will inevitably have a longer impact for Watford.

“I think they can see that what we have done for him so far is obviously helping to make him a better player. So hopefully there is something to be done there.

“He is a terrific lad and a good player. He is a fans’ favourite and understandably so.”
