Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale had a great start to the season, netting a brace as the Spanish giants overcame Real Sociedad 3 – 0 in the La Liga game staged on Sunday 21 August.

The fine show in the match has attracted a lot of praise for the Welshman from manager Zinedine Zidane who said this will be an important year for the forward who has had Real purring even in the absence of star man Cristiani Ronaldo.

The striker had a great show at the 2016 European Championships where he helped Wales to reach the semi finals though Zidane admits he still has a lot of fitness issues, he is backing him to do well in the season.

“I am happy for him. He still has some catching up to do physically but that didn’t show today. We started in the best way possible, scoring a goal quickly, which made things easy for us.”

“It is a tough ground to come to and if you don’t take your chances things can get complicated. We scored three without conceding. I don’t like to speak specifically about one player but when Gareth scores twice… It is an important year for him and he has shown that,” he said.
